Update about Relationships Suck, the long-awaited sequel to Monogamy Sucks

December 29, 2016 Leave a comment

Dear readers,

I recently completed the final edit of my novel RELATIONSHIPS SUCK, the long-awaited sequel to my novel MONOGAMY SUCKS. I must admit I am very happy with how the sequel came out. See my new cover for the novel below created by Dancinee Jennings, who also created the cover for my first novel.

Book Cover2 Relationships Suck (002)

RELATIONSHIPS SUCK continues Jake Dalmas’ story and explores the limits and issues involving relationships, open relationships in particular,  much as the previous book took on monogamy. I believe it is funny and intriguing like the first novel, and actually even sexier and naughtier in parts. It moves Jake’s story forward in cool and sexy ways. I can’t wait to share it with you.

I also introduce a sexy African American character named Simone in this novel. She is an art gallery manager and a friend of  Juliette, Jake’s girlfriend (for those who haven’t read my original novel).  Juliette and Jake have some naughty adventures with Simone that are some of the hottest erotic writing I have ever done.

Also, much credit goes to fellow author Billierosie , known as @jojojojude on Twitter, for stepping up and helping give my novel one final copy edit after our friend and fellow author Scarlett Hartgrove, @cristolklear on Twitter, suffered a stroke recently. Scarlett, who is doing well and currently recovering, did an excellent job in editing and formatting my indie version of MONOGAMY SUCKS. We will work together again on my future novels.

I am still planning to launch RELATIONSHIPS SUCK in late January or early February 2017 just in time for Valentines’ Day. I have been working on the sequel to MONOGAMY SUCKS before my original novel was actually published in December 2010. I finished the first draft of the MONOGAMY SUCKS sequel in December 2012, but I have foolishly sat on it too long. My apologies for that as I lost sight of my writing dreams and real purpose on this earth due to focusing too much on working bad public relations jobs for meaningless paychecks. We all lose our way from time to time.

I promise it won’t be too much longer before Jake Dalmas’ wild swinging adventures return. As always, stay tuned.

The Indie Version of Novel Monogamy Sucks is Here….

Monogamy-Sucks2

Jake Dalmas’ wild swinging adventures have entered the indie publishing world with the launch of a new version of my novel MONOGAMY SUCKS on Amazon today.  (Look for a Smashwords launch soon as well) As I promised late last year after former publisher Blushing Books gave me back the publishing rights, Jake’s tales would live again in a newly edited version that is much closer to the original novel I began working on in March 1998.

I have restored key scenes to my novel deleted by my original publisher Lazy Day Publishing, including more of Jake’s sexual past and background in the opening chapter, Jake’s additional thoughts about the people he meets and the provocative world he explores, and an entire chapter about internet censorship from a once popular internet service.

Although my novel has been updated I want to assure you, dear reader, that the core of the story, my frank, explicit and honest prose, and most notably  Jake’s sardonic humor as he searches for sexual peace of mind, remains the same. Jake’s stories will make you laugh, may turn you on, but it is also my hope my novel make you think more openly about conventional societal norms such as monogamy, relationships, and marriage,  and still taboo subjects, including swinging, alternative and casual sex, and open relationships. The book is not intended to preach or tell anyone how to live, but to only to honestly present an alternative view in a humorous and entertaining manner.

Much praise goes to my friend and fellow author Scarlett Hartgrove for her excellent editing, advice and formatting expertise in helping me reshape and relaunch MONOGAMY SUCKS. I am very grateful for her help in making my transition into becoming an indie author a much smoother experience than I expected.

Many thanks also to book cover artist Dancinee Jennings who worked with me to put together the book’s new cover. She was recommended to me by fellow author Scarlett Hartgrove as Dancinee had created the cover for her debut novel At That Moment (The Eyes of March) (Volume 1).

I feel so liberated and vindicated with the indie launch of Monogamy Sucks. I knew I couldn’t allow Jake’s wild honest voice to stay silent. He is needed more than ever in this current world state of fear, hatred, intolerance, and divisiveness.

As I prepare to launch RELATIONSHIPS SUCK, the sequel to MONOGAMY SUCKS, early next year, the world of indie publishing seems unlimited to me now and so do my writing dreams. I have many more intriguing books planned. Stay tuned.

But for now, enjoy the return to the literary world of Jake Dalmas and his always funny, shocking and intriguing tales on the dark side of sex, life, and erotica.

I am an Indie Author…once again

Now…I truly am an indie author once again…

I guess I should thank my former publisher Blushing Books for this fortuitous opportunity.

This week they took down from Amazon Kindle the third and final novel INDULGENCE I had published with the former Lazy Day Publishing. I had contributed a story entitled, “Swinging with Supernatural,” to the paranormal erotica anthology exploring the adventures of swinger Willy Roamer and his visit to a sexy Carnival. I will expand Willy’s adventures in a later book, but more on that later.

So the publishing relationship I started with Lazy Day Publishing, which began when they reached out to me through this blog in July 2010, is now officially over. The only book I have currently available is my first novel LETTERS FROM CYBERSPACE I published myself with  iUniverse 15 years ago when Indie publishing was viewed with a lot more derision from readers and the literary world than it is today. Frankly, the book’s cover is awful, but my novel is not and it is still worth a read. Admittedly, I was still finding my writing style at the time, but my debut novel still is sexy and funny in parts even though it lacks the frank boldness of my later books. However, it does provide readers an opportunity to experience my writing about a young female protagonist’s sexual awakening and detailing her intriguing point of view concerning sex, the Internet, etc. At some point, I will revise this novel and bring it out again with a new title and cover.

Dear readers, I am sorry about the confusion in recent months involving my books and their vanishing availability. I hope to clarify the status of my current and future works with this post and in the coming months.

As for Blushing Books, I am not providing a link to their site. You can draw your own conclusion about how I feel about them and other publishers.

However, let me stress this: I will never be at the whim of publishers again and all of my work will always be available for purchase online. I worked too hard for too long to have my writing disappear from the Internet overnight.

NO MORE PUBLISHERS FOR ME.

It is a brave new literary world and we no longer need publishers to share our work. Avoid them if you can. I’d rather have MY work out there as opposed to someone else’s revised version of it.

Who knows more about my stories and work than I do?

Toward that end, I am making excellent progress editing a new revised version of my novel MONOGAMY SUCKS. In a couple of weeks, I will have a final draft completed that my friend and fellow author Scarlett Hartgrove will review in preparation for my Indie publishing launch in the fall. I have quite enjoyed adding in scenes, chapters and thoughts of my main character Jake Dalmas that my publisher edited out. I feel this version is closer to my original draft I initially envisioned and completed in the late 1990s.

Once MONOGAMY SUCKS is relaunched, I will work toward bringing out my sequel to MONOGAMY SUCKS entitled RELATIONSHIPS SUCK, which continues Jake Dalmas’ story and explores the limits and issues involving relationships much as the previous book took on monogamy. I believe it is funny and intriguing like the first novel, and actually even sexier and naughtier in parts. It moves Jake’s story forward in cool and sexy ways. I can’t wait to share it with you.

After both novels are out, I plan to tackle many other books including a science fiction novella based on a short story I had written at 18, and a diary novel about hilarious and foolish days of working at a public relations agency. Eventually, I plan on bringing out a new version of my novel DEAR HEF.

Suffice to say, I am not going away. I am more excited about my writing future than ever before. I have a lot more to say and books to write my dear readers and fellow authors.

Stay tuned. The future is now in the publishing world.

2015: An Interesting year of revival for my writing dreams

January 1, 2016 Leave a comment

Forget your dreams at your soul’s peril…

This is from a poem I have written and posted on Twitter often. It really struck home for me this past year.

2015 proved a revelatory year in my writing life in more ways than I can describe. It was as significant to my evolution as a novelist as 2010 and 2011 had been when I finally launched my novels MONOGAMY SUCKS, DEAR HEF and published a cool short story as part of the INDULGENCE anthology.

Indulgence

Earlier this year, I realized that I could no longer put off my writing dreams and edited and finalized my sequel to novel MONOGAMY SUCKS, entitled RELATIONSHIPS SUCK, to send to my publisher Blushing Books, which has purchased my previous publisher Lazy Day Publishing.

I felt like someone who had awoken from a long three-year slumber.  During that time, I had successfully re-established my public relations career, which consumed most or all of my focus. Still, I never forgot my love of writing and my novels, but I foolishly put it aside for a while.

For someone as ambitious as myself, who has 20-25 novel ideas I want to pursue in the coming years, that seemed a ridiculous and scared notion all of a sudden.

At the same time, I decided that my future books after the MONOGAMY SUCKS sequel were going to be self-published. I craved complete control over my writing vision and content. No more publishers.

Self-publishing has changed a lot since I put out  my first novel LETTERS FROM CYBERSPACE with iUniverse. You can produce quality work via many new publishing platforms now. Going indie in the book world is not looked down upon as much as it was 15 years ago.

Fortunately, Blushing Books made it easy for me as they rejected RELATIONSHIPS SUCK and gave me back the publishing rights to my novels MONOGAMY SUCKS and DEAR HEF. They kept the rights to my short story as part of the INDULGENCE anthology, “Swinging with the Supernatural,” as they are planning to re-release the collection in the next year or so.

Admittedly, it was somewhat of a shock when Blushing Books took down MONOGAMY SUCKS and DEAR HEF off Amazon a couple of days after giving me back the rights. All those years of building up reviews and support for those books were now gone overnight.  It was a sad feeling initially to think that the version of MONOGAMY SUCKS that I launched five years ago with Lazy Day Publishing after they reached out to me on my blog, was history.

However, you haven’t heard the last from me, dear reader.

I’m determined to release a new version of the novel MONOGAMY SUCKS that is closer to my original draft in the next year. I am quite enjoying putting back in all the background and scenes that my publisher had edited out. I feel as liberated as I ever have as a writer.

After the re-release of MONOGAMY SUCKS, I will also launch the sequel RELATIONSHIPS SUCK in early 2017. I happy with how it came out and I can’t wait to share it with you.

In the meantime, you can still check out my writing in the INDULGENCE anthology, novel LETTERS FROM CYBERSPACE and follow me on Twitter — @gpwriter — where I share my poetry and thoughts about writing and life.

I will be back as an author in 2016, challenging the status quo of our romantic lives with my wicked humor and naughty prose, but this time on my own terms.

Life can be tough enough, but putting off your dreams, as I learned again this year, can be a form of early death.

Howl to the heavens with your words. Dream big. What do you have to lose?

Happy New Year from a writer renewed….
